Ye Olde College Inn Restaurant

Ye Olde College Inn, New Orleans

One long time favorite in New Orleans is Ye Olde College Inn. It is a more traditional neighborhood restaurant - a place where you can sit down and have a hot meal for lunch or dinner, along with a "cold one" from the Bar. It is located at 3016 South Carrolton Avenue, near the intersection with Earhart Blvd.

College Inn, as it is referred to, is a quiet little place that just keeps on being what it is, year, after year, after year. I remember my parents talking about how they would go to College Inn when they were teenagers. The owners are smart enough to know that if it works, don't tamper with it. And they don't. If you haven't been there for years, you can return and eat, and nothing is different.

Typical of many local restaurants in New Orleans, the menu includes such things as Po-Boy Sandwiches, (Shrimp, Ham & Swiss, Roast Beef, etc.), and hot plate meals, such as (one of my favorites) Breaded Veal Cutlets, with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Also typical are the patrons. One table may be occupied by a couple of salesmen, another by some attorneys, and yet another by a group of electricians, or air conditioning repairmen.

If you are looking for good, local, everyday down home food, College in is a good choice.
