If you are attending a convention or meeting, and if you plan to spend time in the French Quarter, then hotels in the Central Business District (CBD) or in the French Quarter are yourchoice. You are in walking distance to nearly everything, and there are the public busses and the Riverfront Streetcar is available for your transportation.

Hotels in the Garden District are nice, and the St. Charles Streetcar will get you around. It might be your choice if you prefer the calm and quiet of the Garden District atmosphere over the nightlife of Bourbon Street.

If you are coming to New Orleans for Mardi Gras you can attend a number of Mardi Gras parades in Metairie or on the West bank of the Mississippi as well. While hotel rooms may be more readily available with lower rates, you will need transportation - a rental car or public transportation. See my maps for your best location.
